สุนัขไทยหลังอาน หรือ Thai Ridgeback Dog เป็นสุนัขพันธุ์พื้นเมืองของประเทศไทยที่มีชื่อเสียงไปทั่วโลก ด้วยเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัวคือ “อานบนสันหลัง” ซึ่งมีขนขึ้นย้อนทวนไม่เหมือนใคร ถือเป็นหนึ่งในไม่กี่สายพันธุ์ที่มีลักษณะนี้ร่วมกับ Rhodesian Ridgeback ของแอฟริกาใต้ จึงทำให้สุนัขไทยหลังอานจัดเป็นสายพันธุ์ที่ หายากและทรงคุณค่า
ปัจจุบันสุนัขพันธุ์นี้ได้รับการยอมรับจาก สมาคมพัฒนาพันธุ์สุนัข (ประเทศไทย), FCI (Fédération Cynologique Internationale) และ AKC (American Kennel Club) ซึ่งทำให้มีการเลี้ยงและเพาะพันธุ์กันทั้งในไทยและต่างประเทศ
สุนัขไทยหลังอาน มีหลักฐานว่ามีการเลี้ยงมาตั้งแต่สมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยา ชาวบ้านมักใช้ในการล่าสัตว์ เช่น หมูป่า เก้ง กวาง รวมถึงเฝ้าบ้านและคุ้มครองครอบครัว เนื่องจากเป็นสุนัขที่ฉลาด ว่องไว และซื่อสัตย์
ด้วยความสามารถในการล่าและความแข็งแรง สุนัขไทยหลังอานจึงถูกยกให้เป็น คู่หูนักล่าแห่งสยาม (Hunting Companion of Siam)

The Thai Ridgeback Dog is one of Thailand’s most treasured native breeds, known worldwide for its distinctive ridge of hair running along the back, growing in the opposite direction of the coat. Alongside the Rhodesian Ridgeback from South Africa, it is one of only a few breeds with this unique feature, making it both rare and remarkable.
Today, the Thai Ridgeback is officially recognized by the Kennel Club of Thailand, FCI, and AKC, gaining recognition and popularity not only in its homeland but also across the globe.
The breed dates back to the Ayutthaya Kingdom era. Traditionally, Thai Ridgebacks were used for hunting wild boars, deer, and small game. They also served as loyal guard dogs, protecting homes and families with courage and loyalty.
Because of their intelligence, agility, and resilience, they are often referred to as the Hunting Companions of Siam.
